Product Description (direct from the website)

“Woolzies are pure handmade New Zealand wool dryer balls that soften your laundry naturally without any of the chemicals of conventional fabric softeners. Unlike the plastic dryer balls, they are PVC free and won’t fall apart or melt on you. Woolzies save time and energy by cutting down on drying time by an average of 25% per load. They also help reduce static and wrinkles.

Woolzies are also hypo-allergenic and totally safe for people with wool sensitivities as they will not shed onto your laundry.

Unlike even natural dryer sheets and liquid fabric softeners, Woolzies last for 1,000 loads and are therefore extremely eco friendly. So why risk your health and waste your money with regular fabric softeners when you can save time, energy and money with all natural pure Woolzies!”

My Review

I find that I typically do laundry on a daily basis, especially when one of our family members is a toddler. We purchased an energy efficient washer and dryer to help reduce the amount of electricity we were previously using, which has made a significant difference. But I tend to over stuff my washer, that would be my poor attempt to cut back on a load or two of laundry, haha. As a result, my  laundry is taking a bit longer to dry than I would like. I was excited to see what a difference the Woolzie Dryer Balls would make with my method of washing laundry and I have to say, they really have cut back on drying time!

Because my daughter and I have very sensitive skin (we will break out in hives if you we use anything scented on our laundry) I have not used dryer sheets in years. You can just imagine how excited I was to introduce fabric softer back into our lives without the fear of harsh scents and chemicals! Being the frugal mommy I am, I couldn’t believe how wonderful it was that a six pack of Woolzies Dryer Balls cost only $34.95 and lasts 1,000 loads! That is a lot of laundry and a lot of money you would save if you are usually purchasing fabric softeners! They also offer a full refund if they don’t live up to the standard of lasting 1,000 loads. This is a really nice product and if you are looking for a natural and safe alternative to your regular fabric softner, this is a must have!

I was just reading over their fact sheet, which answers some pretty great questions, and I wanted to share that with you!

Here is their FAQ’s Page:

Frequently Asked Questions about WOOLZIES®

Q1: What are WOOLZIES and how do they benefit me and the environment?

A: Regular fabric softeners, both in liquid and sheet form, contain numerous harsh chemicals which are toxic to the environment and even more dangerous to many people who have serious allergic reactions to them. The elderly, ailing and small children can suffer from a variety of negative symptoms which are really just allergic reactions to the harsh chemicals contained in these commercial fabric softening products.

Additionally, because WOOLZIES bounce around in your dryer, they naturally separate and create space between your laundry, thereby allowing the hot dryer air to circulate better and subsequently cutting down on drying time by about 25% in large loads and as much as 35-40% in small loads. This of course saves both time and money for you and energy for the environment.

The 6 WOOLZIES dryer balls contained in every box that we sell are enough for a small. medium or large load. If you are drying an extra large load, we recommend using 8 dryer balls.

Q2: How long will my WOOLZIES last?

A: WOOLZIES are guaranteed to last for 1,000 loads or your money back.

Q3: If I have an allergy to wool, can I still use WOOLZIES?

A: Yes! Absolutely! Since the wool is not directly touching your skin and does not shed, everyone can use WOOLZIES without any allergic reactions.

Q4: Why are WOOLZIES better than rubber/plastic/tennis balls in the dryer?

A: Rubber and plastic balls are made from harsh chemicals including PVCs which are released onto your laundry by the hot dryer air. Not only are these types of dryer balls dangerous to your health, they are toxic to the environment as well. Additionally, the harsh tumbling action of rubber, plastic and tennis balls can damage your dryer’s sensitive electronic sensors. Finally, some of these types of balls may even melt slightly and cause fabric staining.

Q5: Why do the dryer balls seem to each vary slightly in size, shape and texture?

A: Our dryer balls are completely handmade. They are not mass produced by machine. Therefore you will notice variations in size, color and texture.

P.S. Did you know that many commercial dryer liquids and sheets contain chemicals that destroy the fire retardant qualities of children’s and adult’s clothing?!

  1. These are very interesting…I had wondered what exactly they were. I love that they cut down on drying time, that’s a money saver!

  2. This sounds great. I hate every time I go into the laundry room, my son has done his laundry and the dryer sheet is on the floor. I even put a little trash can for lint and dryer sheets on the dryer. Would love not having the mess and waste of buying laundry sheets.

  3. i am really interested to see if these really do work. and if so, i would love to purchase them.

  4. I was hoping to see something about the size of these. Could you give me an estimate? Are they golf ball sized? Tennis ball size? Softball size. I own a small business & make the wool dryer balls. Mine are golf ball size or maybe a little bigger & I use 3 at a time in the dryer. I find that I’ve cut my drying time by 50% at least.

  5. I heard that these are great. I never knew it makes your clothes feel softer until recently.

  6. I’m so excited about these! I’m actually waiting for my blogger balls…. -BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA- ehhhh that sounded so wrong but so funny…. sorry >,> waiting for my balls to review *giggle* and giveaway…. *cackles insanely* I ARE 13!

  7. I too suffer from sensitive skin so finding something that doesn’t break me out has always been an issue. I love green product, not only do they help with my personal health, I am helping the environment at the same time. I often wondered if these really worked and I never try products without reading my favorite trusted bloggers. Think I am going to give them a try. I am for anything that shortness my workload time 😉

    1. I also have sensitive skin and tried Woolsies. I have to disagree about the safety to people with wool allergies. Since using them I have had an itchy rash and never expected the Woolsies. I went to 2 doctors, had blood testr ruling out immune factors and tried every natural and otc product. I finally narrowed it down to the woolsies. Its not the lanolinbut the fibers it leaves on your clothes that make me feel like I have touched fiberglass. So I’l washing everything I own and ditching the woolsies to hopefully get better. It has been misery. I know its an isolated incident but be wary if you are allergic to wool

  8. I have been wanting to try these out to see how much drying time it would save and cut back on my power bill. I love the fact that they are a green product.

  9. Would love to try these. Gets really dry where I live in the winter. Also, I’m not much of a ironer, so wrinkle reducing is great!

  10. I am so curious about these and wanna try them so bad. My husband has sensitive skin, so this would be perfect for him to use.

  11. I have looked at woolzies before and I am very impressed with them. When i only have a few things in the dryer they would be a great help to keep the clothes tumbling. I am hoping to be able to afford them in the future.

  12. These sound awesome. Esp since it seems like it takes hours at a time to just dry one load of clothes. It’s ridiculous.

  13. Gotta love that these save drying time! Anything to save energy these days is a real plus! And I hate dryer sheets which are always inevitably caught up in the clothing. How many of us change our bed sheets and find dryer sheets under them!?

  14. This is funny I came across this because my husband has just started looking into products like this because we are trying to be more all natural and his work clothes always have a lot of static…so I may have to introduce these to him.

  15. I have heard alot about these lately. My dryer takes forever to dry and lately we have been thinking of ways to quit the bills down.So i have thinking of these.

  16. I have these!!!! My husband and my son both have incredibly sensitive skin. My MIL gave me a few of hers and I love them! Anyone looking for a way to take the static out of your clothing but without waste and for people with allergy issues, get these! I found more at my co-op so I wont ever run out lol

  17. love these love when my clothes come out feeling soft and I like that these are natural way of doing that without the chemicals really cool

  18. I have heard a lot about these but have never gotten to try them. I would really like to though so I could see if your clothes dry faster and you don’t need to use store items along with it

  19. What a great product. My family has allergies too and this sounds like a great help in softening fabric without the chemicals.

  20. I want to try these my girlfriend bought some and she said she will never go back to fabric softener.

  22. These sound like they would be way better than dryer sheets! You do a really good review, makes me want to try them for sure.

  23. i’m a huge fan of natural products like these with no harsh chemicals… as long as they keep my clothes static-free, i’ll love them forever… just gotta make sure the kid and/or cat don’t find ’em and lose ’em! they both have a tendency to do just that.

  24. I have always wondered about these little things!! Can’t wait to give them a spin! Get it…spin. Hardy har har…

  25. I would love to try these. I can’t believe that they last for so long. Thanks for the great review.

  26. These sound really cool. I always wondered what they were exactly. Thank you for sharing the review. =)

  27. I can’t wait to use mine they are on the way. This is my one way of being a greener person.

  28. My sister got some of these and also thinks they are amazing. I need to get some myself. It’s great that they last so long.

  29. I would love to try these! My daughter and I are very sensitive to perfumes and dyes in laundry soap, dryer sheets, etc., so I never use the sheets. It would be great to have something all natural to use in my dryer! Thanks for the review!

  30. This is a great idea. Not only are they healthier for me and my family, but they’re environmentally friendly, too. And they save money! What’s not to like?

  31. I use plastic balls and so far I haven’t had them melt on me. They do help some w/drying time. They don’t reduce static. Do the wool balls really help w/static? I am sensitive/allergic to wool, but after reading this I feel comfortable trying them. Thanks!

  32. all my kids have ezecema and very sensitive skin i need these for them i am about to go order me some!!!

  33. I use these in my home and love them 🙂 I have an issue with hives to so I have to be very careful with what I use

  34. I didn’t know that adding wool dryer balls to a dryer load would reduce the drying time. I like that and they also reduce static. I have just bought a box and I can’t wait to receive them.
