Some Useful Advice If You Are Struggling to Conceive
Studies have shown that most couples have a good chance of conceiving within a year. Out of 100 couple’s trying to conceive, around 20 of them will get pregnant within a month, 75 will conceive within six months, and 80 will conceive within one year. Within two years, 95 will conceive. Although there’s a high chance of getting pregnant within one year when actively trying, there’s no guarantee of success.
The fact is that a lot of couples struggle to get pregnant, or think that they are struggling. You see, if they’re not pregnant within a few months of trying, a lot of couples think that there’s something wrong with their fertility. However, that’s not necessarily the case, for some couples it can take longer to get pregnant – anything up to two years of trying can be normal. It completely depends on the couple.
That being said, when you’re trying to get pregnant, and nothing is happening it can be soul destroying. A lot of couples who find it hard to conceive struggle to cope. If you’re struggling to conceive you may be unsure of what steps to take and when, so below are some useful tips and pieces of advice.
Try not to stress
It might be easier said than done, but it’s important to try and stay calm and not stress because getting wound up will only make things worse. Doctors stress the importance of not stressing when trying to conceive, as this can make it more difficult to fall pregnant. So, no matter what, aim to stay calm and keep the stress to a minimum.
Go for a check up
If you’ve been actively trying to conceive for a while (a year if you’re under 35 or six months if you’re over 35) and nothing is happening, then doctor’s recommend going for a check up. The chances are that everything is fine, but just in case there’s a problem, it’s best to go and get checked over.
Keep trying
Most doctors recommend that even if you have a fertility problem of some sort, you keep trying to conceive because you never know what will happen. So whatever the doctor says, make sure to keep trying and having sex on a regular basis. A lot of couple’s find home conception kits to be useful, as they help you to check when you’re fertile and can streamline the process of getting pregnant, so these could be worth a try.
Consider undergoing IVF
When you’ve tried everything else, and nothing seems to be working, the next step that IVF specialists recommend is booking an appointment to discuss the option of IVF. A lot of couples that struggle to conceive naturally find that undergoing IVF allows them to conceive. It may be costly, but if it will allow you to have a baby, then it’s the right choice.
Look at your other options
If IVF doesn’t work or you can’t afford it, there are other options to consider, one of which is surrogacy or sperm donation, depending on who the fertility problem lies with. If neither of these options is suitable, then adoption could be worth looking into. Remember, if you’re born to be parents, it doesn’t matter whether you give birth to your child or adopt them, all that matters is that in one way or another you become parents.
When you’re struggling to conceive it can be incredibly stressful and upsetting, but it’s important to try and stay positive, because even if you can’t get pregnant naturally, there are lots of other options. You can also seek some additional information from an Advanced Fertility Center.
