As you get older, you are then able to start making decisions and this is great. You can start doing what matters most to you and you can even choose your own clothes and your own friends. In some instances, you may even be able to make decisions regarding your own body and health as well. The problem is that when you are a teenager, you may feel as though you are invincible and you may even feel as though you don’t need to eat healthily and you don’t need to exercise either. This is not the case at all, and it’s important that you still take care of yourself.
Your Body and Energy
Your body really does need energy in order to grow. Food is a way for you to charge your battery and it’s important that you balance out your energy so that you can stay more active throughout the day. Different people need different amounts of energy and the amount of calories that you can have per day will depend on whether you are male or female, and what genes you have. It also depends on whether or not you are still growing and how active you are.
Controlling your Weight
It’s true that some teenagers control their weight by eating very little. They also cut out carbs as well. This can be a very unhealthy way for you to try and control your weight because you won’t be giving your body the energy source that it needs. You may even be missing out on important nutrients as well, and this can lead to you being very tired throughout the day. If you don’t eat enough, or if you eat the wrong foods all the time then this can lead you to having very low energy levels and it may even make you feel worse about yourself as well. Remember that diet pills are not the way to go, and if you want to lose weight then the only way for you to do this safely is to eat healthily and to avoid fatty foods or foods that are high in sugar.
Physical activity can be a part of your routine if you want it to be. You could consider playing sports or you could even go on walks. Either way, it doesn’t matter what you want to do, because physical activity can really help you to manage your weight and it can also help you to have way stronger muscles and bones as well. It’s a good idea for you to try and be active for around 60 minutes every single day, and it’s also a good idea for you to try and incorporate a good level of aerobic activity as well. You’ll want something that gets you out of breath and something that speeds up your heart rate as well. If you feel as though the activities that you are doing right now aren’t doing this then don’t worry at all, you just need to increase the intensity of things a little bit. You don’t have to go to the gym and you don’t need to invest a ton of time into your fitness either. One thing that you can do is try and walk for an extra ten minutes a day, or you can even try and walk faster when you do go out. Little things like this can make all the difference and you would be surprised at how much better you will feel afterwards.
Don’t Watch Too Much TV
Did you know that teenagers average over 6 hours of screen time? That is shocking to say the least and too much TV really can interfere with your ability to socialize with others and have a good time. If you want to cut down on the amount of TV that you watch then one way for you to do this would be for you to try and replace your TV time with something more positive. For example, instead of watching television you could easily spend your time revising or you could try and hang out with your friends. Sure, when you’re stressed out, it’s very easy for you to go and put on the television but that doesn’t mean that it is the best thing for you. In fact, it could actually be causing you harm if you watch too much. For this reason, it’s important to monitor the amount of television that you watch and it’s also important that you take the time to analyze your lifestyle from time to time as well.
Learn to Cook!
When you go to university or when you move out, you may find that you are at a complete loss. You may not know how to cook healthy meals and this can make it very hard for you to adjust. It is always a good idea for you to learn how to cook. You can even learn how to prepare meals in advance and this is a very useful skill for you to have. If you don’t want to learn how to cook then why not replace that with another healthy hobby? You really can’t beat having something to look forward to at the weekend and this is a great way for you to unwind and spend your time well. if you are worried because you aren’t good at sport then don’t worry. You may be good at arts and crafts, or you could be a natural virtuoso and you might not even know it! Try and expand your horizon and try and learn more about your own abilities. This is a great way for you to really get out there and it is also a great way for you to meet more people as well.
So as you can see, there are plenty of ways that you can be healthier and feel healthier as well. All you have to do is put yourself first and try and change the aspects of your life that you are not happy with. It’s easier than you’d think!
