I am not sure how I managed to miss this amazing cell phone shop (front and center) at my local Walmart. Well actually, trying to survive the checkout line with two children would be the primary reason for overlooking this great place. Keeping little hands from grabbing candy bars and spinning the bag area as the poor employee tries to bag our items doesn’t leave much room for me to be observant. So I immediately headed to the electronics area of Walmart expecting a little display of some sort where I could learn more about the cell phones they have to offer. When an employee in that department pointed me in the right direction, I returned to the front of the store and was shocked to find that it was in fact an actual store. There was a dedicated employee there to greet and help me with all of my cell phone shopping needs. I just loved the small, intimate atmosphere of the store, as well as the wonderful organization and it didn’t feel at all overwhelming or intimidating. I also noticed right away, from reading the signs and pamphlets neatly displayed throughout the store, that they offered the cheapest wireless plans!

I was born and raised in Maine and it is the only place my children have ever called home. All of our extended family lives there and are in close proximity. So you can only imagine how difficult it was to pack up a moving truck and move all the way across the country to Georgia a few months ago. No longer do we have the convenience of calling grandpa up at noon time for a lunch date, or inviting Nana over to take her grand kids out to be spoiled for the day. This has truly been (for both our family and my parents) difficult to get used to and it has been more important than ever to find ways to stay connected. That is why I was so happy to have been introduced to the affordable and convenient Walmart Family Mobile Plan.

Now I must confess something to you, I did not previously own a smart phone *gasp* Yes, I know! I am a tad bit behind on the trend of smart phones and it’s just one of those things I never really needed… up until now! I have teenage sisters that own smart phones, my husband even has one, so I know how costly those things can be and they don’t call me Miss Frugal Mommy for nothing! I was pleasantly surprised to find a wide variety of inexpensive smart phones to choose from that coincide with the Family Mobile plans, specifically the Alcatel One Touch Evolve phone. Along with my spiffy new smart phone, the Walmart employee handed me my start up kit, which was only $25!

So there I was, only $100 spent towards getting signed up for a family mobile plan, and I wasn’t required to sign my life away. Their no contract service is a huge plus in my book, as well all know how much life can change in two years and everything that can happen in between. You no longer have the worry of being penalized if life happens and you are unable to commit to one month of service. Additionally, the Walmart Family Mobile monthly service fees are incredibly affordable and the cheapest wireless plans I have seen for what you get in return. The price and benefits of their service are undoubtedly great and something worth looking into if you feel you are paying too much for your current cell phone bill.

Taking pictures when the kids are being adorable and discovering all of the new and amazing things where we live has always been something I love to do. However, sharing those new experiences with our family has never been so convenient now that I have a smart phone. I find myself overwhelmed with sadness as Mother’s Day approaches and I think about how this will be the first year away from my mom… and how I will be unable to hug and thank her for being the amazing mom she is. While we adjust to being so far apart and learning how to cope with spending holidays apart, I can only try my best to stay connected to the best of my ability. The Walmart Family Mobile plan has been a blessing to our family in allowing us to stay connected during this Mother’s Day season. I am proud to say that my three year old has mastered the “selfie” and grandma could not be any happier! The fact that my plan comes with unlimited talk, text and data/web means my children can connect with grandma anytime and all the time, without the fear of accumulating a large cell phone bill.

  1. Welcome to the world of SmartPhones. You will never go back! You will be taking so many more photos than you ever did before. Cracks in sidewalks, ants, raindrops! Just because you now can and will always have that phone with you. YAY!

  2. I love that it’s a no contract type deal and I completely agree about the camera! It’s a great way to keep in touch with family at the click of a button or two. I’m going to take a peek at my Walmart…I haven’t noticed it yet, but like you, I’m usually distracted by the kids. It’s really time for me to join the ranks and get a smart phone!
