Tips for Deep Cleaning your Home in Time for Spring

Could your home do with a little TLC? Maybe you feel as though things are slowly starting to get on top of you and you want to do something about this. Either way, this guide will help you to get your home spotless in no time.

Deal with Crumbs

If you see a gap between your stove and the counter of your kitchen then there is a very high chance that bits of food have made their way into this space. If you have a crevice tool on your vacuum then make sure that you use this to reach down there, and then place a stove cover to cut down on the amount of debris that may fall out of view. If you can do this, then your home will feel cleaner in no time at all.

Organize your Fridge

If you have a big fridge then this is great, but at the same time, you will know how quickly it can get filled with clutter. If you want to try and keep your fridge nice and organized then you need to try and remove any packaging from the drinks that you buy, and split out yoghurts into individual pots. Using baskets in the fridge can also help you, as can rotating your older food items before you put away your new groceries. Little things like this can help you to keep your fridge organized, and it also makes it easier to clean in the future.

Monitor Storage

If you have a garage or if you have an outdoor shed that you use as a storage space, then consider adding this to your spring clean checklist. One method that you can use here would be the “keep, donate and toss” process. Go through every single item and make sure that it fits into one of the above categories. If you haven’t used an item in a year or more, then this is a sign that it should go into the donate or toss pile. If you can use this as a general rule, then you should find it easier to stay on top of things.

Clean Doormats

If you want to trap dirt then why not use mats on either side of your front door? You can use one mat outside and one mat inside. Vacuum the indoor mat on either side, as dirt can get trapped here more than you realize. If you want to freshen up your outdoor mat then hose them off and then leave them out to air dry. If you can do this, then you will soon find that it is easier to keep dirt out of your home.

Spray Down your Windows

Wait for a nice overcast day to clean your windows. Make sure that you start on the shaded part of the house, if possible. If you wash your windows on a sunny day then this is a huge mistake, because the water will evaporate as you’re washing them, and this can leave a ton of streak marks behind. If you can, raise the blinds and then wash the windows with some glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth. You can lower the blinds and go over them with a duster. If you have some curtains then make sure that you put them in the washing machine before you hang them.

Wipe your Walls

If you notice that there are a lot of greasy fingerprints on the walls then now is the time for you to deal with them. Take a damp cloth and make sure that you start from the top. As you make your way down, you will notice that the grime comes away and that you can then collect the excess water. If you can wipe down your baseboards and your doorframes, then this is a major bonus. In conjunction with your deep cleans, you should try and do some spot cleans now and again. Tiled walls in the bathroom can be cleaned in a  very similar way, although you will want to use disinfectant here if you can. This will help you to rid your bathroom of any germs. If you have walls that have vinyl wallpaper, then make sure that you wring out a microfiber cloth and then give them a gentle wipe so you can avoid damaging it.

Freshen your Carpet

If you want to refresh your carpet between deep cleans then try and use a portable carpet cleaner. You ideally need to use one that has a rotating brush. If you have carpet odor then sprinkle some baking soda or even some carpet deodorizer. Using a soft brush, you can then get it deep within the fibers and lift the odor without any issues at all. If you notice that your carpet is stained then now is the time for you to give it a deep clean. Hiring a professional could be the way to go here, so be mindful of that when the time comes for you to clean your home.

Clean your Mattress

A lot of people overlook their mattress, when deep cleaning their home. If you want to do something about this, then take note of the type of mattress you have. You can then look up how to clean a mattress properly, without damaging it. A clean mattress can help you to sleep better at night, so it’s a job that’s well worth doing.

De-Stink your Kitchen

Do you have a kitchen sink that just smells bad? If so then you may have the ingredients you need to fix the issue, right now. Try and put some lemon rind into the garbage disposal and then turn it on for around 30 seconds. You can also put some bleach down the sink to clean your drains. When you have done this, it is then a good idea for you to put some boiling water down so you can rid any odors that might be lingering. This is one of the best ways for you to ensure that your kitchen smells fresh, without having to invest in a ton of expensive products.
