Review: 4 Top Child Safety Car Seats

No parent needs to be told how precious their children are, but they do sometimes need a bit of advice on certain aspects that they may not be fully familiar with yet. For example, the CDC has confirmed that the leading cause of death in young children is car accidents. It is however, possible to prevent a majority of such tragic incidents from ever occurring by investing in the right car seats, and we are going to discuss the top five next.

Chicco KeyFit 30

The Chicco KeyFit 30 has a 5-point harness and a reliable bubble indicator to let parents understand when the seat has properly been attached to the car seat. It’s also fairly easy to transport and the latch can be tightened for a more assuring fit. The KeyFit 30 infant car seat even comes with a canopy to provide protection for your child against the weather.

Nuna RAVA 2019

The Nuna RAVA 2019 is as posh and stylish as it gets, although it’s not cheap by any account. However, that price is well worth it, since a classy look is not the only thing going for the RAVA.

It comes properly equipped with every safety feature that parents should expect from their children’s car seats. Some of those highlight features can be listed as below:

  • Energy absorbing foam, coupled with Side Impact Protection (SIP) pods offer excellent impact resistance
  • Ten different reclining positions, ample legroom with calf support
  • True Tension door, steel (reinforced) frame and reinforced compartment
  • 10-point harness for extra security

Clek fllo Convertible

If you are looking for a slick model that doesn’t do away with the most important safety features, then the Clek fllo will be the ideal choice for that. However, if the child is below 14lbs, you will need to buy an infant insert separately, although they will still need to be at least 5lbs even then. Once you do get it though, it will easily carry the child until they reach 50lbs.

In terms of safety, the Clek fllo doesn’t compromise either, as it comes equipped with a steel anti-rebound bar, deeper side-wings for protection against side impacts, an adjustable headrest, and the seat is well covered with energy-absorbing foam to provide the protection your child needs.

Diono Radian 3 RXT

Those searching to find the absolute tank of a children’s car seat, the Diono Radian 3 RXT won’t let you down. At 28+lbs, it’s not light by any means, but just go through the following safety features to get an idea of what you will be investing your money in:

  • Hand-built with a steel alloy core from the ground up
  • Reinforced aluminum sidewalls provide superb side impact protection
  • The metal is covered with comfy and safe energy absorbing EPS foam
  • The sturdy head rest has 12 points of adjustment for neck relaxation
  • In the forward-facing position, it can carry up to 120lbs (45lbs for rear facing riders)
  • Loud click to let parents know when the car seat is safely attached

Are there Manufacturers You Should Avoid?

It is to be noted that Graco paid $10 million in 2015 to settle a lawsuit against them, on account of manufacturing and equipping their children’s car seats with defective belts. As bestselling author and famous personal injury attorney Matthew Trapani states, “Child safety car seat manufacturers have a legal responsibility to provide safe products to their consumers.” On failing to do so on any account, they have the legal obligation to compensate the grieving party/parties as best as possible.

Graco has since corrected their design, but you may want to be careful if you are looking at any of their products, especially since they likely knew about the defect beforehand as well.

  1. Here’s a little tip if installing rear-facing with the lower LATCH anchors. After pushing the connector onto the lower anchor bar (fat side of the connector on top so it looks like a stapler clamping onto the bar), pull the loose “tail” end of the LATCH strap thru the slot on the top on the cover. Apply downward pressure to the side of the seat with one hand and pull the strap tight with the other. Repeat on the other side. The result should be a tight installation which is defined as less than 1″ of movement from side to side when you tug on the seat *near the best path*. In this case, just grab the metal bar near the area of the LATCH strap and tug side to side. If it moves less than 1″ when you tug with reasonable force – you’re golden!

  2. Amazing review on safe car seats for children. I came across an online store for children, named Babecrate, where I found really safe and comfortable car seats for my nieces in reasonable prices. I would recommend it for parents looking for safe car seats for their children.
