Celebrate Mom this Mother’s Day with a Trip to Fresno

We often associate the word “mother” with love, care, comfort, and home. She takes care of everyone within a household, including her spouse, children, pets, and the house itself. Despite working so hard, she rarely receives her due thanks every day, and that’s the reason behind Mother’ Day! Although a gift or a dinner out would be a nice gesture to thank her, an entire day revolving around mom can really make her feel special.

The Day Just For Mom

Although it might seem like a carefree holiday, many anti-war activists like Julia Ward Howe endeavored to achieve a peace day for mothers to achieve global unity after the American Civil War and the Franco-Prussian War. However, it was the valiant efforts of Anna Jarvis, who started Mother’s Day work clubs after she held a memorial for her mother at St. Andrews Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia.

Although the U.S. Congress rejected the proposal to make Mother’s Day an official holiday, people continued to recognize the holiday locally. Woodrow Wilson decided in 1914 to sign the proclamation declaring the second Sunday of May as Mother’s Day.

And keeping that in mind, your mother needs a special day because even the government thinks she deserves it!

Fresno is Fun

Fresno, a city in California, is located in the serene valley of San Joaquin. It is renowned for its established industries, growth, and success in agriculture. It was created in the early 1900s and is home to the famous Yosemite National Park, which holds massive waterfalls, old sequoia trees, and breathtaking landscape.

Some of Fresno’s top attractions include the famous Fresno Art Museum, the Fresno Chaffee Zoo, and the Forestiere Underground Gardens filled with Catacombs.

If mom likes to run, there’s a fun race that starts in Woodwork Park. Children can run with their mom to show their support and receive great awards for taking part in the mom/son team race.

A Place to Pamper Mom

Mom deserves a fun weekend out where she can unwind with no responsibilities. Often when you go out, mom stays back home with the pets, but why not give mom a break? Choose a pet-friendly hotel so mom won’t go missing her furry friend on the trip but still can entrust her children to look after them while she goes out for some solo time.

There are many Fresno hotels that allow pets and offer plenty of recreation facilities to help her unwind. Here are some:

  • Hyatt Place Fresno

The hotel is located in the heart of the Central Valley and has beautiful rooms and suites that overlook downtown Fresno. It is located a few minutes away from the River Shopping center and not too far away from the Yosemite National Park and the Kings Canyon National Park.

  • The Courtyard Fresno by Marriott

Located in North Fresno, The Courtyard makes touring easier since it is close to the River Park, the California State University, and the Tower District. The soberly decorated rooms are well-lit, clean, and suitable for all.

A Meal Mom Would Love

According to the NRF, the average person spends about $180 every spring on Mother’s Day. Since Mother’s Day only comes around once a year, why not make the best of it? To complete the end to a perfect day, treat mom to a nice meal. If she took part in the race, she would be famished and looking forward to a delicious meal. Here are a few places to check out:

  • Little Fat Dumpling – Located in N. Friant Road, Little Fat Dumpling is renowned for its hand-made Chinese food. The walls are covered with decorations like Chinese artwork and paintings. If dumplings are something mom loves, make sure to drop by, and even if she doesn’t, it’s worth a try! Delicious xiao long bao, xiao long noodles, and soup are part of the menu.
  • The Patio Café – The famous Patio Café is found in the beautiful Fig Garden Village and serves organic, healthy food. Although you can sit inside too, the patio seating is the best choice since you get a beautiful view of Fig Garden Village filled with greenery. You can also expect a lot of variety in their menu, which includes different breakfast choices, enchiladas, waffles, and sandwiches.

End the Perfect Day with Some Love

Apart from giving mom gifts and taking her out, make sure to spend time with her.  Once you get back home, too, don’t forget that every day is special, just having her around.
