A Must Have New Year’s Dish: Cheese, Tapenade & Seasoned Buttery Crackers

I am always looking for delicious new dishes to serve at holiday gatherings and decided to really step up my game for New Years. Our family absolutely loves cheese, olives and crackers, so I decided to take a swing at creating some of our favorite snacks from scratch. I found the Cracker Barrel Cheese Tray at Walmart and it quickly became the inspiration behind my next two dishes. I wanted to find a few good treats that everyone would love and would be easy to serve at a large gathering. Homade tapenade and seasoned buttery crackers seemed perfect and with a practice round… oh my word… they came out amazing! This is seriously going to be something I serve at every gathering because everyone at our home gobbled them right up. Plus they are both super easy to make!

First you will need to gather all of your ingredients. As mentioned, you can find this convenient Cracker Barrel Cheese tray at your local Walmart. You will also need the following olives to create the tapenade.

For the entire recipe, all you need to do is mix the following ingredients and chill in the refrigerator for 24 hours.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped black olives
  • 1 cup chopped green olives (with the pimento)
  • 1 cup chopped Kalamata olives
  • 2 tbsp capers
  • 1 fresh garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp minced onion
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp red wine vinegar
  • juice from half of one lemon

Next I am going to show you how to make the most delicious seasoned buttery crackers you have ever tasted! First you will need to melt two sticks of butter on the stove, then mix in a desired amount of seasoned garlic salt and Italian seasoning. Once the butter is melted and the seasoning is mixed, turn off the burner.

Take the saltine crackers and place them in the melted butter mixture, flip them over to heavily coat both sides with butter. You will then want to place them on a baking rack so the excess butter can drip off.

The final step is to bake them in the oven at 275-degrees for about 20 minutes or so, watching them in the last 5 minutes to make sure you don’t overcook or burn them. They should be golden and toasty when ready.

  1. I am a huge fan of Pinterest. Saw your recipe for tapenade and thought I would give it a try. I find it much easier for me to follow a recipe when I can print and read it on paper. Trying to do so with no results. I can follow on my phone but would rather not. Easier to print and copy for friends. Can you help me with this. Thank you. Happy Holidays!!! Jan
