One of the first things I discovered when moving from Maine to Georgia is that this state has a massive amount of cats in their shelters. That weighed heavily on my heart for awhile and I couldn’t shake the feeling that I should help. The kids and I decided to visit our local shelter one day and found that they were overflowing with kittens and had over 100 ready for adoption. We held and cuddled with several of the fuzzy little kittens, but there was one particular cat that we instantly clicked with. Tuns out that this precious black and white kitten had come to the shelter brand new and without a mom. A very nice women from the shelter fostered her up until that day and spent much time hand feeding her and bringing her back to health. We knew at that moment that our family was ready to take over the responsibility of her care and provide this kitten with a forever home. She took a few days to adjust to her new surrounding, mostly slept for the first week. Then finally she took a day to explore the home, we introduced her to our old lady cat and set her up her own food/water/litter box area. The transition was everything we could have imagined and she has bonded with each one of us. Fast forward three months and penguin (the name we have her) has tripled size and is such an active, fun and loving cat. I am so glad we made the decision to adopt a kitten, I could not imagine our lives without her! What a great feeling knowing that we both helped our community and gave a cat a permanent loving home.

So that brings us to a very important date this week and that is National Cat Day! This is a day dedicated to helping cats everywhere find their forever home.
