Celebrating the Wonder Woman In My Life

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Dr Pepper®. The opinions and text are all mine.

Dr Pepper wants you to appreciate the #WonderWoman in your life and has asked me to share my story. There was absolutely no doubt in my mind who this person is, her face popped into my head without hesitation when I was first asked who the Wonder Woman in my life was. My mother is by far one of the kindest people I know, and I wish I had an ounce of her selflessness. So what exactly makes her so high on my pedestal? Well let’s start from the beginning!

I come from a big family. There were four of us growing up. My father was hard working and as a result my mother was able to be a stay at home mom many years throughout my childhood. I remember her having several jobs throughout the years, but as a child I never truly understood the sacrifices she was making. You see… my mother gave up several of her dream jobs… jobs that brought her so much happiness and the ability to provide for her family. It wasn’t until I was an adult did my mother share with me the reasons she had to walk from these jobs and they were always because she put her family… her children first. Time and time again she put our happiness and well-being first, she set aside her dreams more times than she should have had to… without a single complaint. She gave us an incredible childhood, loved us fiercely and raised us to follow our dreams. I will forever be grateful for the life she provided and what it took for us to have it.

A few years ago my mother decided to go back to college and finally pursue those dreams she had once set aside. I have witnessed this woman transform into a full-time college student, while still continuing to be active in the community by volunteering at local shelters and putting her time and resources into many charities run by her church. Every time I talk to her she is either studying for a test, writing a paper, helping out a neighbor, comforting families at the shelter, bringing the dog for a walk, helping one of my sisters out, helping a stranger out… the list goes on! She never complains, she never asks why, she never gives up… she is an inspiration!

Three years ago we moved to Georgia, and living on the opposite side of the country from my mother has been incredibly tough, I miss her more than I can put into words! She has been an amazing support system and we are actually closer and have a stronger relationship than ever. You never truly realize how important a person is in your life until they are many miles away. She still continues to cheer me up when I am sad, encourages me to pick up my chin when times get hard and the passionate voice that reminds me of all the things I am capable of. She always has and always will be the Wonder Woman in my life!

What makes this post even more special is that my mom’s favorite drink is none other than Dr Pepper. So I made a trip to my local Walmart and picked up her favorite drink in honor of this special occasion where I am going to celebrate what an amazing woman she is in my life.

She may not be here physically, but she is always here in heart and just a phone call away! If you feel inspired to celebrate someone in your life, then make sure to stop by your local Walmart where there are Wonder Woman-themed Dr Pepper cans, which has are now available in stores! Plus don’t forget that the Wonder Woman movie will be in theaters on June 2nd.
