Important Features I Look For In A High Chair
As a mother of three children I like to think I have good amount of experience and expertise when it comes to high chairs and which ones to avoid. One thing that you want to keep in mind, when selecting a high chair, is to make sure it can grow with your family. I personally love having my children at the table with us when they are in a high chair, so making sure it can adjust to any size table is an important feature to me. I also want the ability to easily move it to a new location when we are not eating at the table. A proper safety restraint that is easy to maneuver, because we all know how difficult it can be to strap a wiggly toddler into a seat. A restraint that my little one can not wiggle his/her way out of is also ideal, as they can always squeeze out of a simple lap belt. Lastly, easy cleanup is the most crucial feature for me and will make or break my decision to purchase the high chair. I have taken apart, scrubbed down, washed and put back together enough high chair cushions to know I will never again have one in my home that requires so much work to keep clean. The fabric may be made with material that is easy to wipe down, but crumbs and drinks will get caked into all the cracks and crevices and you will be forced to take it apart for a thorough cleaning. I am way more likely to choose a simple high chair than one that has a dozen bells and whistles because of this reason!
My Boon Flair Pedestal High Chair Review
When I first received the Boon Flair Pedestal High Chair in the mail and opened the box, I could not believe how simple it was to assemble. The image below shows what the high chair looks like straight out of the box, notice there are only four pieces! Simply connect the pole to the base, the seat to the pole and a few screws, click the tray in place and you are good to go!
As I mentioned in the beginning of this post, the most crucial feature to me is the ability to easily clean the high chair. I don’t want to have to take pieces apart and spend hours trying to get the dried up food out of the cracks and crevices. So as you can see from the images below, clean up could not be any easier when it comes to this high chair. In addition to the chemical-resistant and water proof pad being incredibly easy to wipe down, you don’t even have to fully remove it to clean the high chair.
The cushion pad can be easily manipulated so that you can clean underneath and around it, you don’t even have to remove it fully from the high chair. I really despise having to re-thread straps on car seats, baby seats and high chairs, so it was really great to know I will never have to do that with this one! The high chair also has a 5 oint harness that is really easy to use. My two oldest children could always wiggle their way out of the lap belt ones and I felt as if I couldn’t turn my head for a second. It’s so reassuring to know that when I strap my child into this high chair, they are 100% safe and I can step away to make food without the worry of them escaping.
I just love the foot rest at the bottom of this high chair, which actually serves two purposes for our family. My son is old enough to get himself into the chair and uses that foot rest as a step. What a fabulous little feature! The image below also gives you a good shot of the orange handle underneath the tray. You have to move that orange handle to the sid and then squeeze it in order to remove the tray. There is absolutely no way that your cild will be able to push the tray out on their own.
Removable trays are a must have feature and makes cleamup significantly easier. You can pop the tray out after your child is done eating and wipe all the mess right into the trash. This is way better and more convenient than having to use napkin and wipes to get the tray clean.
The pedestal base is a new feature that I am just discovering and so far I am really loving it! This makes it extremely easy to move around and it doesn’t scratch the wood floor. There is also a hands free breaking system, so when holding the baby I can easily lock the base with my foot so my son can’t push it away from the table. The orange button on the base allows me to adjust the height and it truly can be done effortlessly!
Now I was completely in love with this high chair from the start and could not find a single negative thing about it! My husband on the other hand was skeptical the first time he laid eyes on it and was worried our son would be able to tip it. His biggest concern was that our very active and rugged son, in combination with the large base, would find a way to tip the high chair over. So we decided to put the Boon Flair Pedestal High Chair to the ultimate test! With the base locked in place, we asked our son to shake from side to side as hard as he could (my husband stood next to him as he did this to catch the high chair if it started to tip.) My husband was sure of himself that when my son swayed side to side, the base would move like a teeter totter and eventually tip over. WELL… he was immediately proven wrong when the high chair began shimmying across the floor when my son very aggressively swayed side to side! My husband is now a huge fan of this high chair and its impeccable safety features and me… well, I hate to say it… but I was right, hehe!
This is truly the perfect high chair and something that is going to last a very long time. I am so impressed with each and every feature, as well as how versatile it can be. You are going to be able to use this as soon as your baby is sitting while supported and use it well into the preschool years!
