How to Plan a Great At-home Date to Remember

If you’ve been with your significant other for quite a while, a little spontaneity can help keep things fresh. It shows her that you’re still willing to make an effort and have a few surprises up your sleeve.

That said, date nights can be hard to figure out, especially when it feels like you’ve done everything already. After all, there are times when a fancy restaurant dinner can seem too cliché, while a movie night with takeout food may feel too ordinary.

However, you can still plan a great at-home date that’s fun and memorable. After all, not every date has to take place outside, especially if you and your partner prefer to stay indoors. Here’s how to pull it off:

Dress for the Occasion

Just because you’re staying home doesn’t mean you can’t look a little fancy. Switch things up by trading in your loungewear and pajamas for what you’d normally wear when you head out for a more relaxed date. Wear a nicely pressed shirt, put some pants on, and keep your feet comfy with quality men’s casual socks as well as your favorite sneakers. Tell your significant other to dress similarly so that she’ll know you’ve got something special planned out.

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with deciding to dress to the nines. Some people may think that doing so is a fashion faux pas, but what matters most is that you’re spending time with the person you love the most.

Set a Schedule for Your Date and Commit to It

It can sometimes be tempting to simply postpone an at-home date if you’re not in the mood for it. However, the point of going on this date is to help the two of you connect in new ways. Therefore, you both must treat this at-home date like you would any other date night.

To ensure that your date pushes through, choose a day and time that works for both of you. Make sure to let your significant other know about it ahead of time, too. That way, you can both make the necessary preparations for the date, whether that’s shopping for dinner ingredients or cleaning your house for the occasion.

Do Something Special for the Meal

Want something fancy for dinner, but don’t feel like ordering anything? Make dinner preparations more fun for you and your girlfriend by cooking a gourmet-style meal together. You can even make grocery shopping a part of the date as well.

Cooking a restaurant-worthy meal with your partner can help the two of you bond with each other, especially because it’s a step above the usual home-cooked dinner or takeout food. Moreover, you and your girlfriend get to share a sumptuous and extra special meal at home.

Sample Different Wines and Chocolates

There’s nothing like finishing your meal with some fine wine and chocolate. But why settle for the usual brands that you’re both used to when you can explore new ones that you haven’t tried yet? It is fairly easy to purchase a wine sampler pack and a box of assorted chocolates that you and your significant other can try. You can share your thoughts on each one that you try, and maybe even take notes on which ones you might want to order full boxes of next time. Even if you both end up hating everything that you sample, it can still be a great experience that the two of you will love reminiscing about for years to come.

Choose a Fun Activity to Do Together

Aside from dressing nicely and cooking dinner, why not add another activity to make your at-home date even better? For instance, you can do something fun and competitive like playing against each other in a video game or a board game.

If neither of you is really into that, you can both work on a leisure project instead. Having a  common goal can give you both a sense of accomplishment once you’re done. Look for a useful DIY project that you’ll both enjoy doing, or spend the night putting together a puzzle.

Sometimes, life can get in the way and prevent you from spending quality time with your partner outside of the home. But as their significant other, you should try your best to continue wooing her, no matter how long you’ve been together. That said, fun at-home dates are a great way to stay spontaneous and keep things fun and interesting in your relationship. They allow you to take nights at home to the next level, and it can reignite the spark between the two of you. If you both end up having a great time during your at-home date, you can work together on planning the next one, too!
