5 Simple Ways Busy Parents Can Relax and Unwind

Life is demanding and sometimes stressful, especially for parents with busy schedules. Having children means making sacrifices to accommodate their afternoon activities, their schooling, appointments, playdates, and other obligations. Dedicating the time to making sure their kids live the best lives possible often means that moms and dads don’t have much time to spend on themselves. This is why it’s important for parents to find simple and natural ways to relax; the little things one can do to unwind after a long day, or even in the midst of it all if there is time to spare.

Music is a powerful tool. A song with an up-tempo beat can motivate a person to get up and move while a slow, soulful voice can inspire a person to contemplate. Music acts as a distraction from the bustle of everyday life and can influence our moods, lower our heart rates, our blood pressure and the number of stress hormones produced by our bodies. Slow, classical music can be used to achieve this or maybe even smooth jazz. Others may prefer nature sounds accompanied by the light use of an instrument or two; everyone is different which is why you should explore your options to see which works best for you.

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is frequently used for relaxation. It is a natural substance derived from the hemp plant and is non-intoxicating. It is not unlawful in the United States and has been shown to improve quality of life in both animal and human studies. Using CBD oil to relax is a trend that continues to grow amongst adults. There are a wide range of products available in the CBD industry, CBD dog treats also available.

A cup of tea can also help you de-stress during the day. Valerian teabags are made from the root of the Valerian herb and have anti-anxiety properties as well as mild sedative effects. It’s natural and is a great way to achieve relaxation during the day.

Another simple way for parents to relax and unwind is to take a nice bath. The evening is usually a time when kids are occupied with homework. Mothers (and fathers too) can use this time to draw a warm bath (with your favorite bath bomb, of course) and soak for thirty minutes to an hour. The self-care therapy of soaking in warm water helps loosen tense muscles and encourages blood flow throughout the body. You can further enhance this experience with a scented candle or two (also known as aromatherapy) while playing soft, soothing music in the background. Many parents have used, and still continue to use this method to relax after a long, demanding day.

It goes without saying that sleep is the most effective way to relax and unwind. We all do it, most of us at night. However, some of us don’t get the proper sleep we deserve due to bad habits and a poor sleeping environment. Our quality of sleep often dictates the quality of our day. To achieve the sleep that leaves you feeling refreshed in the morning, you should avoid a few things before bed. That includes caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, screens of all types, greasy foods, and you should avoid sleeping during the day. Make sure your room is dark, the temperature is to your liking, and if it helps, utilize background noise (a fan or a sound therapy machine) to ease you into REM sleep.

Parents live busy lives. It’s important that mothers and fathers make the time to relax, even if it is for as little as five minutes. Whether it’s through the use of music or Valerian tea, a relaxed parent is the best parent.
