Don’t Make These Costly Errors When Moving

When you decide to move, it can be an exciting time for a family. After all, you are moving to a new humble abode where you are going to watch the kids grow up over the years. And you are looking forward to the extra space you will have in your new home. However, moving house can be one of the most expensive times in your life. And it’s easy to make mistakes which can also add to those hefty bills. Therefore, here are some costly errors you need to avoid when you are moving.

Don't Make These Costly Errors When Moving

Not checking the property for issues before

You will be surprised how many people notice issues in a home after they have moved in. After all, you might have red tinted glasses when you go to the property for viewings. But unless you want to find out you have to fork out a fortune after moving into the home, you need to check before. Look around for signs of damp and condensation which can cost a fortune to repair. And make sure you ask when they last had their electrics and boiler checked out in the home. Replacing these will cost your family a small fortune, so you need to know about this before you complete the sale. You should also get a report done by a surveyor before you move any further with the sale. They will check the structure of the property and will inform you of any problems. Therefore, you can feel happier you are not making an error with the sale.

Not getting insurance on your belongings

Whether or not you use a moving company to transport your items, you need to make sure there is valid insurance covering your belongings. After all, if something expensive breaks on the way, you don’t want to have to fork out a small fortune for a new one! Therefore, if you are moving the items yourself, ensure you have valid moving insurance so that you can replace an item if it breaks. And if you are using moving companies to transport your stuff, you should ask them about their insurance policy. Ask to see the legal documents which clarify what you are covered for. That way, you will feel happier that you don’t have to fork out a small fortune if something does break on the way!

Not checking how much bills will cost at the new place

When we move into a new home, it’s easy to just concentrate on getting a cheap mortgage deal. After all, we want to make the monthly repayments as cheap as possible. But to ensure you are not left out of pocket, it’s also important to make sure you are checking how much the bills will cost at the new place. After all, you don’t want to end up feeling the pinch as the bills are way more expensive than you initially thought. Therefore, ask the previous owners for examples of bills, so you know how much they have been paying. That way, you won’t be left with any surprises when you do move into the property.

  1. I guess though insurance is important you have to assess the risks and if you’re ready to give a shot of not paying extra to the moving or insurance company, you can live with whatever the outcome of your moving trip is
