If your kids love music, silly characters, and stories that actually teach them something, there’s a new soundtrack worth adding to your family’s playlist.

The Dead Sea Squirrels: Season 1 (Original Soundtrack) officially released on July 10, 2026, bringing together all 22 songs from the first season of the popular animated series. The approximately 38-minute soundtrack is now available to stream on major music platforms, and families can also purchase it on CD.

And as a mom who is always looking for ways to make screen-free family time a little more meaningful, I really like the idea behind this one.

If the name Mike Nawrocki sounds familiar, there’s a good reason.

Nawrocki is the co-creator of VeggieTales, co-founder of Big Idea Entertainment, and the longtime voice of Larry the Cucumber. He created The Dead Sea Squirrels as a way to introduce children to the Bible and the teachings of Jesus through humor, memorable characters, and imaginative storytelling.

The premise is definitely one that is going to get kids’ attention.

The series follows 10-year-old Michael and two squirrels, Merle and Pearl, who were preserved in Dead Sea salt for 2,000 years. After being brought back to Tennessee and unexpectedly revived, the squirrels use their firsthand knowledge of Jesus’ teachings to help Michael and his friends deal with challenges in the modern world.

It is quirky, funny, and designed to make biblical lessons approachable for kids.

22 Songs, 38 Minutes of Family-Friendly Music

The Season 1 soundtrack includes all 22 songs featured throughout the animated series.

That means families can take the fun of The Dead Sea Squirrels with them without turning on another episode.

The songs touch on lessons including kindness, honesty, mercy, self-control, diligence, overcoming worry, trusting God, and the life and teachings of Jesus.

The soundtrack also follows the story of Jesus through songs about the Nativity, His ministry, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection.

I especially love the idea of using music as a way to reinforce lessons children have already heard. Sometimes a catchy song sticks with a child long after a conversation or lesson has ended.

And if you have ever had a child replay the same song approximately 47 times in one afternoon, you already know just how powerful repetition can be!

There Are Some Big Names on This Album

One thing that immediately stands out about this soundtrack is the lineup of Christian artists involved.

The album features performers including Matthew West, Bart Millard of MercyMe, Katy Nichole, Ellie Holcomb, Mac Powell of Third Day, Steve Taylor, and three-time GRAMMY Award winner Ashley Cleveland.

It also features Mike Nawrocki and a number of other performers and contributors.

So while this is music created for children, it isn’t being treated like an afterthought.

Steve Taylor, animated series producer, performer, and co-writer of the Dead Sea Squirrels theme song, explained that the goal was to create children’s music that was funny, memorable, and musically strong while still supporting the biblical truth at the center of each episode.

That’s a combination I think parents can appreciate.

Don’t Skip “Tiny Squirrel”

One of the songs that families can check out is “Tiny Squirrel,” performed by Mazzy Mason and written by Steve Taylor.

The accompanying music video is a fun introduction to the personality and humor behind the franchise, and it makes a great visual companion to the soundtrack.

If your kids are anything like mine, give them a catchy song and a silly character and you’ve probably got their attention.

A Screen-Free Extension of the Series

This may actually be my favorite part of the soundtrack.

Music is an easy way to create screen-free entertainment without asking kids to sit quietly and read a book for an hour.

Put it on during a car ride.

Play it while the kids are coloring.

Listen during school drop-off.

Turn it on during family time.

Use it as background music while you’re making dinner.

Or, if you’re headed to church or a family gathering, it gives kids something familiar and fun to listen to.

The soundtrack essentially gives families another way to revisit the lessons from Season 1 without needing to turn on the television.

And with 22 songs, there is plenty to explore.

The Books Are Growing Right Along With the Series

The Dead Sea Squirrels didn’t start as an animated series.

The franchise is based on Mike Nawrocki’s best-selling children’s book series published by Tyndale Kids.

The first book, Squirreled Away, recently surpassed 100,000 copies sold.

The book series is continuing to grow, too. Book 13, Cybersquirrels, was released April 7, 2026, and Book 14, Field Day Frenzy, is scheduled for release October 6, 2026.

Meanwhile, Season 2 of the animated series is currently in production.

So if your family discovers Merle, Pearl, and Michael through the soundtrack, there is plenty more Dead Sea Squirrels content waiting for them.

There’s Even a Museum of the Bible Connection

The franchise has also partnered with the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., for an interactive scavenger hunt connected to the museum’s Dead Sea Scrolls: The Exhibition.

The experience uses 10 motion-based interactive kiosks where children can explore virtual caves with Merle and Pearl, search for Dead Sea Scroll fragments, and assemble a complete Bible verse.

The exhibition remains open through September 7, 2026.

For families planning a trip to Washington, D.C., that’s another fun way to combine history, the Bible, and the Dead Sea Squirrels characters kids already know.

What Mike Nawrocki Says About the Soundtrack

Mike Nawrocki shared that his hope is that kids will want to sing these songs again and again, while the biblical truths in the lyrics remain with them even after the music stops.

And honestly, that’s what makes this kind of children’s music so valuable.

The goal isn’t simply to keep kids entertained. It’s to give families songs and stories that can become part of everyday life while reinforcing lessons parents want their children to learn.
