With all of our family living on the opposite side of the country, we heavily rely on our technology to stay in contact with them. From Skyping, texting, sharing photos and sending videos, I am determined to make sure my children’s grandparents can share all those special moments with us. We are always looking for fun new ways to share our humorous side, my kids have quirky little personalities and like being silly with their grandparents. So when I first discovered the Pocket Avatars app, I knew just from the description that this was going to be a huge hit with my kids. I have to admit that once I downloaded the app and tried it for myself, I must have spent a good hour using it all on my own! Then once my four year old got his hands on the iPad and I explained to him how the app worked, the laughter continued for another hour! You must be so intrigued and curious at this point… what is this Pocket Avatar app all about? What about this app leaves my kids creating silly messages for their grandparents and laughing uncontrollably for hours? Let us start from the beginning! First ou are going to want to head on over to the Pocket Avatar website, where you can either click the iTunes or Google Play store.
We downloaded the app onto the family iPad, the website directed me right to the iTunes store for easy downloading. By the way… this app is absolutely free for everyone to enjoy!
Your next step will be to create an account, which takes no time at all and just a few standard questions.
Now this is where the fun begins and you will need to allow the app to connect to both your microphone and camera. Once that is done you are ready to visit the avatar store where there is a large variety of free avatars for you to choose from, in addition to others that are just $0.99.
There’s a great selection of avatars, here is just a fraction of what is available to you!
Once you have chosen an avatar it will appear on your screen and the camera will focus in on your face. From there, start talking, singing or making funny faces and your avatar will mimic your every word and move! You can be silly and have fun with the avatar, or make a video and share on social media or email! Check out the video I made for you all:
Here is a more in depth video of how this amazingly fun app works:
This is such a fun app for my two older kids and simple enough for even my four year old to use all on his own. Life can get so busy and staying connected with long distance family can get tough. Simple little things like this allows us to stay in contact while offering a few laughs!
I would love to know if you downloaded the free app! Make sure to follow @pocketavatars on twitter to check out all the great videos people are sharing.

Adorable! I love how your son got into it. Which was your favorite avatar? #client
Thanks Andrea! I would have to say that the whole family loves the fish avatar the most! 🙂
