About the Cozywoggle

cozywoggle can be worn in 5-point harness car seat“Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children between ages 2-14, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Part of the problem is that young children are often strapped into their car seats while wearing a heavy coat, with the straps loosened for comfort. In the event of an accident, the coat compresses, leaving the harness loose and increasing the child’s risk for ejection from the car seat and/or the possibility of injuries from the loose belts. Cherlyn Jenkins, mother of two young boys, has developed a solution – the Cozywoggle, an innovative new coat that keeps young children safe in car seats.

When Cherlyn Jenkins learned that young children shouldn’t be placed in car seats while wearing their coats, she had a newborn and a toddler. She needed to find a way to keep her children warm, while also keeping them safe. She couldn’t find any coats or jackets that were proven to be safe in car seats, so she created one herself.

As parents, we excel at safety-proofing our homes, putting up gates on our stairs and latches on our cabinets, but then we inadvertently jeopardize our children’s safety by putting them into their car seats wearing traditional coats. Crash tests conducted at an NHTSA approved lab, MGA Resarch, have demonstrated that wearing the Cozywoggle while riding in a car seat is safer than wearing a traditional coat. In fact, the Cozywoggle was proven to be as safe as riding in a car seat without any coat at all.”

The Cozywoggle:

  • Is the ONLY product that looks and acts as a coat, but is safe to be worn in a car seat.
  • Is made from heavy-duty wind/water resistant polyester, and is lined with cozy fleece.
  • Can be used with any 5-point harness car seat – either forward or rear-facing.
  • Comes in sizes 12 months, 18 months, 2T, 3T, 4, 5 and 6.

 My Review

Did you know that putting your child in their car seat while wearing a jacket is extremely unsafe and if in an accident, they could be ejected from their seat? We read the warnings all the time, hear the news stories of it occurring and insist to our pediatrician that we understand all car seat safety requirements. But sometimes you have to wonder, do these people have any idea what it is like to live in a state like Maine? Do they understand what it is like trying to get your three year old into their car seat mid winter with freezing rain outside? After battling for ten minutes with my child to actually get their jacket on before leaving, the last thing I want to do is take it off two minutes later. Plus it gets ridiculously freezing cold here, there’s no way I am allowing my little one to go outside without his coat. So what is a mother to do?

That is when I discovered the solution! The Cozywoggle is the only car seat safe jacket available right now! This adorable, stylish and comfortable jacket looks just like any other, but you would never know it contains a secret safety feature. I can put this jacket on my son (after he is convinced wearing one is a good idea) and proceed to put him in the car seat with it on. There are zippers on both sides of the jacket that can be unzipped while your child is in their seat, allowing you to put the straps on underneath the coat. So not only is your child safely secured into their car seat, but they also still have the comfort and warmth of wearing a jacket. Is that not amazing or what!? The Cozywoggle is one of those products that amazes me every single time I use it and I am so thankful to have discovered it. The quality of the jacket is great, my son has been wearing it every day for a month and it looks brand new still (which is amazing considering he’s a three year old boy that likes to get dirty.) I am 100% satisfied with this product and do not have a single negative word to utter about it… it’s just simply a life saver here in the cold state of Maine.
