Weight Loss for Type 2 Diabetes Control

Type 2 diabetes has become a rather common diagnosis for many people. The need and demand for both preventative medications and lifestyle management assistance continues to rise. Keeping your body at a healthy and stable weight is a critical component of diabetes prevention and control.

Medication

Acarbose is an oral medication commonly used for weight loss and diabetes control. How does acarbose work? It assists the body by inhibiting carbohydrates from being turned into sugar and preventing them from being absorbed by your body, thus keeping your blood sugar at a more stable level after eating. High swings in your blood sugar levels, either too high or too low, can lead to serious long-term health issues. Maintaining a stable, consistent blood sugar level as much as possible should always be your goal.

Exercise

Moving your body regularly should be your goal every day. A little bit of exercise can go a long way when it occurs on a regular, consistent basis. Exercise can be easily added to your normal everyday routine. When you take a phone call, walk around rather than sitting in a chair. Park your car farther away from the store entrance rather than nearby. Choose the stairs instead of the elevator. Curl some light weights while watching TV. All these activities can add up to great health and weight loss benefits.

Eat Smart

When you struggle with type 2 diabetes, you simply must choose to eat smart. Some people can get away with a cheat meal now and then, but you must listen to your body and know your limitations. No matter how tasty the food or how badly your taste buds might crave it, no food is worth setting yourself up for sickness, weight gain or health issues down the road. Find treats that will be satisfying enough to keep those cravings under control, while not undermining your health and weight loss goals. Join an online group for moral support. Do an online search for treat and recipe alternatives to your favorite cheat foods. Learn how to turn those cheats into healthy treats.

Living with type 2 diabetes does not have to be the end of the world. You are in good company with the many people who live it out every day. Know that you are not alone. Be willing to reach out for support and advice. When you have found that sweet spot of balance for your own life, be willing to then pay it forward to be that support for someone else.
