I purchased this shelf for super cheap… probably over a year ago, and envisioned it being the perfect place to store toilet paper in our master bathroom. It ended up being one of those projects that I never got around to doing, and it just stood there holding the toilet paper and looking plain. I have put a few decor items on the shelf over time, but nothing that I fell in love with or kept permanently. I finally decided it was time to get working on this shelf, but didn’t want to spend a ton of money on decor and storage items. I challenged myself to use either what I already had around the house, or spend less than $20 at my local dollar store. I ended up completing this challenge and spent a very modest amount on finally completing my simple and budget-friendly bathroom organizer!
The first step was to make a trip to my local dollar store. Everything you see down below was a dollar each and if you look closely, I was under my original budget of $20 and only ended up spending $18! I found that using glass items and filling them up with decor items myself saved a lot of money. These items are around $10-30 when you purchase them at larger chain stores.
I am by no means talented when it comes to decorating my house, and often find myself frustrated when I see those magazine-worthy home decor photos on Pinterest… why can’t I think of stuff like that?! I really stepped out of my comfort zone with this project… I admit that I often depend on decor items that are already made because of my lack of creativity discourages me. This time, I told myself that I was going to grab all the items that I loved and just go with it… get creative!
I really wanted to cover up these baskets in a simple and non-permanent way, just in case I change my mind later. I took some garland and wrapped them around the wired baskets. Simple and affordable way to decorate them!
This is what I came up with in the end…not too bad in my opinion! I ended up using all of the items that I purchased, and a plant that I already had around the house. If your bathroom doesn’t have a window and the sun to keep a plant alive, I give an example of what I would do instead.
I am so happy that I finally managed to tackle this project and regret that I waited so long to finally get it accomplished. I love how simple and elegant this turned out. I am sure there is some room for improvement, but I can’t complain since I spent under $20!
Something you may not know about this bathroom organization project is that the toilet paper you see on the shelf… it has my bathroom smelling absolutely amazing! With three kids at home, I have given up on using any sort of device that keeps your bathroom smelling good. Whether it was a candle (unsafe with little ones), a spray (kids love to overuse it, or a plugin (also not the safest with kids)… they never ended up being a permanent solution because my kids would get into them.
I have been using this Angel Soft® with Fresh Lavender-Scented Tube in our bathrooms (we have three), and every single one smells amazing the second I walk into it! The Fresh Lavender Scent is applied to the tube, so you smell it when the rolls are being stored in the bathroom.
I love that I don’t have to do anything extra to keep my bathrooms smelling like lavender; simply storing the toilet paper in my bathroom (something I was already doing) keeps the entire room smelling good… no sprays or candles needed. The scent is not overpowering, it just helps to deliver a fresh, slight scent to your bathroom.
I am so thrilled to finally have completed a project that I have been procrastinating for far too long AND to have discovered a toilet paper that allows me to keep my bathrooms smelling great without any effort on my part! Let me know in the comment section down below if you have a bathroom organization project that you have been holding off. I challenge YOU to get it done in $20 or less!
