Should You Splash Out On A Hot Tub?

Many people love the idea of owning a hot tub. However, it’s important to make a few practical considerations before splashing out on one. Below are just a few things to consider before you buy a hot tub.

Can you afford a hot tub?

Hot tubs were once a luxury item that only the wealthy owned. Nowadays, more everyday people are investing in hot tubs. This is because there are now many cheaper models on the market – namely inflatable hot tubs. Such hot tubs typically cost between $200 and $1000.

Traditional hot tubs are more expensive, often costing between $1000 and $8000. If you want a custom in-ground hot tub or a large hot tub such as a swim spa, expect to pay over $10,000.

On top of costing a lot of money to buy and install, hot tubs can cost a lot of money to run. Expect your energy bills to go up when buying a hot tub.

All in all, you need to make sure that you’ve got enough money upfront and that you can afford the running costs. Inflatable hot tubs with a high energy-efficiency rating are your best option if you want to save money.

Have you got the space?

The average hot tub takes up an area of about 2m square. Make sure that you’ve got enough space in your yard or your home for this.

Indoor hot tubs could be more challenging to find space for. You also need to consider how the hot tub will get into your home – unless you’re buying an inflatable hot tub, it could be too challenging to get a hot tub through tight doorways or corridors without assembling it in parts.

Are you prepared to maintain it?

Hot tubs need to be regularly cleaned and treated to keep them hygienic and in full working order. The type of maintenance required depends on the type of hot tub. It’s important that you understand what maintenance is required and that you’re prepared to carry this out.

There are companies that you can hire to handle hot tub maintenance. This could take away the stress of maintaining it so that you can enjoy it as a luxury. Just make sure that you have the money to pay for this service.

Will you get good use out of it?

Like anything, a hot tub is only worth the money if you’re going to get regular use out of it. Hot tubs are therefore best bought for personal use by people who will enjoy regularly using them to de-stress or relieve chronic pain. You can buy hot tubs as a party piece, but you need to make sure that you’re regularly having parties where people are going to use your hot tub.

Most hot tubs can be used all year round. To encourage all-year-round usage of an outdoor tub, it could be worth placing it under a gazebo so that you can still enjoy using it in rainy or windy weather.
