My Reason To Live A Healthier & Longer Life

My Reason To Live A Healthier & Longer Life

This post brought to you by American Heart Association. The content and opinions expressed below are that of Miss Frugal Mommy.

As moms we often spend so much of our time taking care of our children’s needs, that we forget about ourselves. Raising three children is an incredible journey, one that I wouldn’t change for anything. Sometimes I need that reminder though, that my children need a mom that takes care of her needs as well. They are the very reason I want to live a healthier, longer life… so I can watch them grow and never miss a single precious moment. Every year when February rolls around, I am reminded just how important it is to take my health serious. You see, February is American Heart Month and unfortunately something that hits too close to home. Both of my grandparents lost their lives to heart attacks when I was very young. Fast forward over a decade to my senior year in high school, its a day just like any other when suddenly I receive a frantic phone call from my mother, crying and desperately trying to catch her breath and inform me that my father had a heart attack and was in the hospital.

I will never forget that day, nor the two minor heart attacks he has had over the past ten years. My family’s heart health history has shown me just how fragile life can be, how a seemingly healthy and active person can fall to their knees in a second when a heart attack strikes. I never want my children to experience the fear and sadness that I felt when I lost my grandparents or learning my father was in the hospital. I want to be healthy always and live the longest and most fulfilling life possible with those three kids!

The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association want people everywhere to experience more of life’s precious moments. In order to do that, you must be healthy in heart and mind. The heart is where life’s moments are felt most, and the mind is where we relive them again and again. I want you to take some of your favorite moments and use them as your motivation for living a healthier life. I want LIFE to be the reason that you make healthier choices each day so that you can be healthy in heart and mind. Making change isn’t always easiest, but with the right mindset and motivation, anyone can do it! Here are some easy ways to make your life and your family’s lives healthier:

  • Increase consumption of fruits and veggies
  • Decrease consumption of sodium
  • Decrease consumption of sugary sweetened beverages
  • Increase physical activity
  • Check and control blood pressure

Have you ever noticed how much your children look up to you? How much they seek your praise and approval? You are their everything and they want nothing more than to please you the best that they can. Let’s get real for a minute here… moms are the center of the family, we are what holds everything together. What we need to realize is that we contain the power to create real change. We affect the decisions that keep our family healthy and we have the impact to encourage them to make better choices for their heart and brain health.

The more moms that make healthy living a priority, the healthier our future will be. Moms united can make real change! If you are seeking additional resources for healthy living, like recipes, healthy tips and tricks for moms, and information and resources on heart and brain health… I highly encourage you to visit the American Heart Association (Life Is Why) website, it is a great resource for living a healthier life.
