Increase Your Home’s Curb Appeal, Even When You’re On A Budget!

How your house looks from the outside will affect the first impressions of friends, family, and potential buyers. While we shouldn’t worry too much about what other people think, it is nice to come home to a house you are proud of. There are plenty of things you can do to improve the curb appeal of your house, and they aren’t as expensive as you might expect.

Give It A Wash

Cleaning the outside of your home should be your first (and cheapest) step. Using a bucket of hot soapy water, thoroughly clean your front door, window frames, and any fascias or coverings. Garage doors also get very dirty and discolored, so give this and any other side doors a good scrubbing as well. It may be a big job but spread it over a few weekends to make it more manageable.

Replace Doors and Windows

If your doors and windows are old and shabby, simply cleaning them may not be enough. Look into replacing these using local companies, and search online for the best prices and recommendations. Go for energy efficient windows to save money in the long run, with strong and secure front doors.

Look At Your Roof

Missing roof tiles and slates will make any home look tired and neglected. Don’t try to fix these yourself, though, speak to a roof repair company and call in the experts to avoid any accidents. If your roof is in good repair, get someone in to give it all a good clean and remove any moss and lichen that has grown over the years.

Replace Windows And Curtains

The furnishings inside the house are still view-able from the outside, and how you dress your windows can improve the outside of your home. Make some new curtains from a beautiful fabric, or for roller shutters visit westral.com.au for a modern and clean look. Don’t clutter windowsills with ornaments, and place fresh flowers in vases.

Clean your Drive

Block paving driveways can quickly become overgrown with moss and weeds. Scrape these out with brushes, or use a power washer to remove these. With gravel drives, pick all the weeds out by hand or using a weed killer.  Learn more about what these Driveway Contractors recommend to kill weeds that grow.

Keep your Lawn Cut

Mowing a lawn is an easy weekend job that will improve your home. Try this on a dry day, and don’t cut the grass too short. Rake out any moss, and fill in patches with grass seed, and make sure you keep your lawn watered and fed during warmer months.

Look After Plants

Sometimes, the back garden can take priority over the front. But make sure you keep on top of the deadheading and general care of the plants at the front of your home. Stake back any larger plants that are beginning to flop, and prune shrubs during the correct seasons. Remove dead blooms to encourage new growth, and keep an eye out for infestation or disease. Use compost on borders and beds to improve the soil quality and provide your plants with nutrients.
