How To Get The Best Travel Deals

Traveling can be an expensive adventure, so if you can find great travel deals to help you out, you should definitely take advantage of them. Here are some useful tips for finding the best deals and saving yourself some money that can be used for spending when you’re abroad.

Book In Advance

Many people assume that you will save money if you book at the last minute, but this is not necessarily the case. It can often be that when flights first become available, they are already at a good price, but as time goes on, if they aren’t all booked, those prices can actually rise because the airlines want to make as much money as possible. If it looks as though they aren’t going to sell all their seats, higher prices will mean they can make money on the seats they do sell. Therefore, if you book as far in advance as you can, you should be able to save money.

Doing this also means that you’ll have more time to pay for the flights. You can usually pay just a small deposit and pay the balance nearer the time of your flight, so you can spread the cost.

Sign Up For Newsletters

Signing up for newsletters from airlines and travel agents means that you will be the first to find out about any special deals and sales that are happening, and you can take advantage of this by buying tickets when they are at their cheapest.

Remember, though, unless the travel company you are signing up to receive news from has good GDPR training in place, you might find that your email address and potentially other sensitive information falls into the wrong hands, and you are bombarded with spam. Check ahead of time that your information will be kept safe.

Book One Way Flights

One way flights are ideal if you aren’t sure when you’re going to return from your travels (or even where you are going to be returning from if you are choosing to travel the world), but they can also be useful for people who do have a set date to return home. Buying two single tickets sometimes works out less expensive than buying a return ticket – this is to do with taxes and capacity. It doesn’t always work out like this, but it’s a good idea to check before you book a return flight just in case you can save money; sometimes the saving is in the hundreds of dollars, so don’t forget to do the math.

Don’t Take Any Luggage

If you can pack everything you want to take into your carry-on bag and you don’t need to place anything in the hold, you can save even more money here with some airlines. It will depend on who you fly with, as some include your hold luggage as part of the ticket price, so you won’t be saving anything. As a bonus, this practice means that you don’t have to wait around for the luggage to be de-planed and placed onto the carousel, so you can beat the crowds and leave the airport more quickly.
