However, it’s important to look after yourself as well, you can still be an amazing parent alongside working on your own self development. Here are a few ideas for how you can better yourself, be more fulfilled and reach your goals while still being the best mom to your children.

Work on your career

You might not want to (or be able to) go back to work right now. If you choose to stay home to raise your kids then that’s absolutely fine- it’s all about what works best based on your preference and circumstances. But just because you’re a stay at home mom doesn’t mean you can’t work on your career. You could do a part time, online course, these are flexible so would allow you to study around your parenting commitments. You could study for a diploma or degree, or if you already hold qualifications you could study the next stage up. For example, if you have a degree in nursing you could study an online msn leadership masters. By the time you’ve qualified later down the line, you may well be ready to get back onto work where your kids are a little older. You’ll be able to apply for higher roles with better wages which can make things easier for you and your family. As well as help you to reach your own goals.

Think about health

Chances are you’re already very careful with your child’s health. You give them the right nutrition, make sure they get enough exercise and struggle with a bedtime routine to ensure they get enough sleep. But how much do you think about your own health? Eating right and exercising are two proactive things you can do- do these as a family. If you have young children, running around the park together and playing games is good exercise for all of you. If you have a baby then take them out for long walks in the pram. Cook healthy meals that the whole family can enjoy, instead of feeding children and adults separately. You need to maintain good health for yourself, and for your kids.

Take up hobbies that build skills

Hobbies are important for people of all ages. But when you’re a mom, having that bit of time out for yourself can help you to de-stress and also maintain some of your own identity. Lots of hobbies you can take up will be fun for you as well as benefit your family. Cooking, baking, gardening, crafting and more are all examples. Work out what you like to do, and when you get the chance to, indulge in your hobby. It will make you feel good about yourself, and in some cases your family will be able to enjoy the outcome too!
