Give Extra To The Amazing Teachers In Your Life

When our family first moved across the country last February and started our new life in Georgia, it took all of use quite some time to adjust to our new life. My oldest daughter (whom was seven at the time) had the most difficult time and my heart still hurts when I think back to those days. I was so amazed by her bravery when she stepped foot onto a new school bus and waved goodbys as she drove off to her first day at a brand new school. Starting at a new school is hard enough, but having to join half way through the school year is extremely tough. Her last months of second grade were full of notes home from the teacher, constant emails about her not paying attention in class and less than satisfactory grades. I could not figure out why my intelligent and loving daughter was doing so poorly in school and became so frustrated when the teacher offered me no support or solutions. Summer arrived and quickly passed, soon we were welcoming a brand new school year and I looked forward to this fresh start for my daughter. I was fully prepared and ready to tackle last years struggles in order to have a successful school year. However… there were no notes coming home… no emails about her behavior… and all her papers were coming back with beautiful latter A’s. Her first progress report came home and I literally started crying… all A’s and satisfactory. Through many emails, phone calls and letters back and forth to my daughter’s teacher I discovered what an amazing person she was! My daughter’s teacher has an immense love for her job and her students and goes above and beyond to help them succeed. My daughter is excellig in all areas and her teacher has nothing but wonderful things to say about her. She receives emails from me frequently thanking her for being such an amazing teacher, but I thought it was time to give extra to her this holiday season.

I had recently come across this super easy craft for DIY coffee mugs and permanent markers. I am not the most crafty or creative person out there, so this seemed simple enough that even I couldn’t mess up. I headed to the Dollar Tree and grabbed some white coffee mugs, the permanent markers were available at Walmart. The first step is wiping the mugs down with alcohol wipes to assure that you have a clean surface.

It was suggested that you use scrap book letters on the cup, but I didn’t have a letter “G” so I simply cut the letter out myself and taped it on.

I chose my three favorite colors and placed dots all around the letter with my first marker of choice. Repeat this step two more timed with different color markers until you are satisfied with your results. Pull of the letter to observe your gorgeous coffee mug and touch up anywhere you think needs some work. On the other side of the cup I found was the perfect place to write a quote. The quote I included was perfect for how we feel about my daughter’s teacher, she contains so much love and passion for being a teacher! The final step is to place the mug in the over on 350 degrees for thirty minutes.

We stuffed some decorative tinsel in the coffee mug and a few packs of our favorite flavors of Extra Gum. This was such a simple, easy and fun way to show my daughter’s teacher that we appreciate her hard work and everything she does. Gift giving doesn’t have to be expensive or extravagant. I have dozens of personalized coffee mugs with my kids pictures on them from over the years and they are my favorite… I love them far more than any expensive coffee mug. Personalized gifts are always very popular and something a person can love and enjoy for many many years.
