DIY Toilet Paper Roll Bird Feeder

DIY Toilet Paper Roll Bird Feeder

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Wet Ones® Hand Wipes. The opinions and text are all mine.

There is nothing I love more than spending time in our yard with my children! We are truly an outdoors family and are always looking for ways to enjoy the fresh air and sun. Something that we have really enjoyed lately is observing all of the birds busy at work in our yard. Whether they are gathering leaves for their nest, plucking bugs from the grass, or perched on the fence chirping… we simply adore observing these beautiful creatures. We decided this would be the perfect time to make them a little something special in the yard. I wanted a simple, inexpensive craft and thought that these DIY toilet paper roll bird feeders were perfect! Thanks to Wet Ones® Hand Wipes, we made these bird feeders easily and got cleaned up quickly!

What you’ll need:

  • Toilet Paper Rolls
  • Twigs, 2 per roll
  • Bird seed
  • Peanut Butter
  • String
  • A Hole Punch

What I really love about this craft is that the kids can play an active role in making their bird feeders, it’s not one of those crafts where you will spend the majority of the time assisting your child. The first step is to punch two holes on one side, they should be opposite of each other. Then string the holes and create a loop so that you can hang your bird feeder when done. You will then need to put four holes on the opposite side, they should be opposite from each other. This is where you will push your twigs through and create a perch for the birds.

Have your child spread a layer of peanut butter on the area above the twigs. We kept the layer a bit thicker, as we found the seeds stuck much better when done that way. Next you will have your child pour some bird seeds on the peanut butter. We found that after covering as much peanut butter by sprinkling, you can then roll it in the peanut butter to cover the remaining exposed peanut butter.

Now the kids are ready to find the perfect spot to hang their bird feeders so they can observe the birds enjoying a delicious treat.

I am not going to lie… this craft is messy and we all know how sticky peanut butter can be. Not only do I suggest taking this craft outdoors, but I highly recommend keeping some Wet Ones® Hand Wipes always in stock.

The last thing my kids wanted to do when they were done with their bird feeders was have to go back inside and clean up. There is no need to drag the happy kids back indoors, simply have them clean up with Wet Ones® Hand Wipes and they are ready to find a spot in the yard to patiently wait for the birds to visit their new feeders.
