Sometimes you need medical care that can’t be taken care of at home. If you need more advanced medical care help is available in a nursing home.
Nursing homes have gotten a bad rap over the years. What most people don’t know is there are rehabilitative centers that look and feel more like hotels than hospitals that give you more personalized therapy and attention than if you were in a hospital.
How can you find these nursing homes? BestNursingHomes.com. This is a website, provided free to the public by the Association of Skilled Nursing Providers, that lists five-star nursing homes and rehabilitation centers rated by Medicare.
What’s different about this site than others?
1. BestNursingHomes.com lists ONLY the best sites. Anything on the list has been preapproved by Medicare as one of the top in the country.
2. There’s no annoying sales center. BestNursingHomes is run by a nonprofit organization whose mission is to make people aware of the good nursing homes.
3. You don’t have to enter any personal information. No one is going to contact you when you search the site.
4. You can contact the nursing homes directly. If you see an option that you like, simply call the facility or send an email using the contact form.
5. You can see what the center looks like. For the facilities that have chosen upgraded listings, you can take a virtual tour of the building.
6. You can review patients’ experiences. BestNursingHomes uses proprietary software to get real reviews from real residents and family members.
BestNursingHomes has been made possible by the generous donation of North American Health Care and its CEO, John Sorensen. John has made it his life’s work to serve the elderly population, has sponsored the development of BNH, and donated it to the ASNP for use. “We are very grateful for the leadership of John Sorensen in the post-acute care industry,” said Amy Osmond Cook, Ph.D., Executive Director of the Association for Skilled Nursing Providers. “John is a leader in his field, a generous philanthropist, and a great example of someone who places serving the patient above anything else. We are proud to be associated with John and North American Health Care and grateful for his support to promote best practices in skilled nursing.”

The fourth tip is what got my grandmother’s attention when it mentioned about taking tours of a nursing home. Well, do all nursing home offer that to their clients? I ask that because the last nursing home that she went to was unable to give her a tour and my grandmother didn’t last too long over there.
That’s really cool that some of them offer virtual tours. My mother-in-law wants to feel like she is in a very nice home, but she doesn’t have the energy to come tour with us in person. So this works out really good for her! She is really picky, and she’s enjoying browsing the listings with us.
Thank you for sharing this helpful information. It sounds like this site would be a great help in researching good nursing homes. You said that these nursing homes are approved by Medicaid. Do you know what the criteria is? We want to find the best care for the best price in our area.
In-home care is a great idea. Some people prefer that over nursing homes. I do not have experience with either type.
Would some nursing homes provide like any medical assistance or even a hospital nearby? I’m thinking about finding an adult home for my uncle who’s been staying with my wife and I. My wife has been telling me that it would be time to let my uncle live in a nursing home with people his age.
My sisters and I have been thinking about what to do with our father. He is getting to the point where it is hard for us to always help him. I have friends who have gotten in home care and that seems like a nice option. That way he can stay comfortable.
Recently I saw some nursing homes but this site’s facilities are different than others. I really impress. Actually, I want to give my old father in a nursing home but can’t understand what is the process is. Can you please help me in this way?

I really enjoyed reading your post. I run a Care Agency in London, England. I can’t but agree with most the points raised above. Thank you for sharing such an informative post.
My parents already had their health insurance. They are on pension. And elderly people can also opt for the senior assisted living where they can seek assistance for anything they need help with. Security is one of the main reasons senior apartments have become so attractive to senior citizens; they can freely roam around the place without having to worry. If the health of a senior resident is at risk, then the management at the senior living community will recommend moving that resident to a nursing home where they can be properly treated.
Seniors who are not able to live completely on their own but at the same time do not require continuous care, either, can always opt for senior assisted living. These assisted living facilities offer assistance to the aged people with daily tasks such as laundry, bathing, dressing, eating and medication.
Choosing the best home care for our elderly loved ones can be a pretty tough job. There are tons of things to consider. Good thing that there articles like this online to guide us in decision making.
Nowadays, there are plenty of senior care options and living apartments for the seniors depending upon their needs and the amount of assistance they require to survive and spend the golden years of their life the way they wish. An assisted living residence is a long-term senior care option that provides personal care support services such as meals, medication management, bathing, dressing and transportation. Many people opt for these options and live independently.
You make a good point about the need for advanced medical care in some cases. It’s nice that you leave a reference for follow up for readers whom would like this option.

Adult bibs are also available in all vinyl to help protect the clothing from spills that can ruin garments. A continuous cuff along the bottom helps hold liquids and food crumbs before they reach the floor. This type of bib may be washed in a regular washing machine.
Shopping for groceries for someone else can be challenging, but it’s important because it ensures the senior gets adequate nutrition
Nursing homes offer the most extensive care a person can get outside a hospital. Nursing homes offer help with custodial care — like bathing, getting dressed, and eating — as well as skilled care.
