Diaper leaks can be extremely frustrating, leaving with you messes to clean and additional laundry and bedding to clean. The most frustrating part for me is knowing that my child was sleeping in their own pee, ughhh there is nothing worse than picking up your little one when their soaked from a leaking diaper! There are so many reasons your child is waking up to a leaking diaper. I am sharing with you today my best advice and tips so you can narrow down the cause of your child’s leaking diaper issue!
Wrong Diaper Size
The most common cause of diaper leakage is using the wrong sized diapers on your baby. So your first step to eliminating this issue is checking if the current diaper size you’re using is right for your baby. You also need to factor in that the amount of pee increases as your baby grows. While the diaper size may appear to fit your baby, the amount of pee may have increased with their growth, so the diaper may not be able to absorb the larger amount of urine.
My best advice is that the bigger the size, the better the absorbency. If you notice frequent leakages, it may be time to change your baby’s diaper to a larger size.
Change Diapers Often
One simple way to prevent diaper leaks is to change your baby’s diaper on a regular basis. Diapers aren’t designed to hold large amounts of urine, so once they’ve reached their saturation point, the only place for the urine to go is out the sides and top. Generally you should change your baby’s diaper every two/three hours. If you know your baby has urinated in his diaper, change it right away.
Put the Diaper On Correctly
This one may see a little obvious, but there are a few techniques that can help cut down on the diaper leaks. If you find that your baby’s diaper leaks in the front, make sure that you pull the diaper up above their belly button before attaching the tabs. If you find that your baby’s diaper is leaking in the back, try adjusting the diaper so it sits higher up their back and position the tabs downward. Once the diaper is on your baby, pull the leg bands outward, which will help to create a better seal. You can also fold the top band down, which can help to trap the urine inside. If you have a boy, always make sure to point his penis down to help prevent urine from leaking out the top of his diaper.
Use A Diaper Designed With Leak Protection
One of the most important tip for preventing diaper leaks is to make sure you are using I diaper that is specifically designed with leak protection… which not all diapers do! Luvs just recently introduced the new and improved Luvs Ultra Leakguard Diapers with NightLock Plus™. Not only are they softer and more absorbent than ever before, but they are designed with large stretch tabs for easy fastening and ultra-leakage protection!
