5 Things To Consider If You Are The One In Need Of Training And Not Your Dog

Dogs are a man’s best friend, but without the right training, they can be dangerous. This is especially the case for big dog breeds such as pit bulls. However, what happens when it’s you that needs training and not the dog? This usually happens with first-time dog owners. In such a case, you can seek help from professional dog trainers such as Exclusive Dog training. Exclusive Dog training is among the best dog trainers in Cherry Hill. However, even as you seek such services, there are certain basics that can help you relate better with your dog when in training. Here are 5 things to consider if you are the one in need of training and not your dog.

  1.   Consider your patience levels.

When it comes to dog training, patience is key. Dogs are pack animals and they naturally respect and follow the leader.   However, for a dog to view you as a leader, you need to be patient. It will take time for a dog, especially a fully grown one to naturally follow your lead. In essence, if you are finding it hard to train your dog, make sure to work on your patience. Without patience, you will never win with a dog.

  1.   Consider working on your leadership skills

Dogs are an amazing way of testing your leadership skills. That’s because, they always follow your lead, and do whatever you teach them to do. In essence, if your leadership skills are poor, and you are inconsistent in your instructions, you will find it hard to handle a dog. Therefore, to ensure that you train your dog well, you need to seriously consider working on your leadership skills. Skills like firmness and consistency can pay a huge dividend, when training a dog.

  1.    Are you understanding enough?

You can tell that you need training, if you regularly find yourself getting irritated due to your dog’s behavior. In such a case, you need to reflect more, and work on becoming a more understanding person. That’s because your dog will make lots of mistakes in the course of training. At the end of the day, it is still an animal and may not remember everything it’s taught. By working on this, you can interact better with your dog.

  1.    Consider the risks of not getting the right training

If you think that the cost of training your dog and also getting the right training is high, then you need to look at the risks. For instance, you need to remember that you can be liable if your dog gets aggressive and bites someone while on your property or outside. When you consider such costs, then getting the right training for dealing with your dog becomes a necessity.

  1.    Consider taking a group class

If you feel like you need training, then maybe taking group classes would be a great idea. When you take group classes with other dog owners, you also get to interact with different dogs. This gives you a feel of the different dog personalities and how to manage them. This can help you become a better dog owner, by training it better.

  1. I totally agree with your post. As a dog trainer, you are training the people and not the dogs. The dogs do nothing wrong but it’s the owners that are making sometimes more subtle or severe mistakes.

  3. That was an interesting post Heather. In my 10 years as a certified trainer, there’s ONE BIG LESSON I have learned. More intelligent dogs are better behaved. A More intelligent dog takes commands easier and understands what you need from them. The good news is no matter how clever you think your dog is.

You can unlock their hidden intelligence quickly and easily. If you guys are interested in brain training for Dogs course, please email me at shannonharmaninc@gmail.com.

It’s great for eliminating any bad behaviors by tapping into your dog’s hidden intelligence.

  4. Thanks for telling me that it needs a lot of patience before I’m able to train my dog. My Goldendoodle often jumps on my visitors and although they find it cute, I’m afraid my pet would encounter a guest who isn’t fond of dogs by accident. It might be a good idea to look for online dog training classes that we can take advantage of to avoid those situations in the future.

  5. In general, all pets should have a complete physical check-up at least once per year. It’s better to always remember about this routine maintenance for your pet friend 🙂

  6. Well, I also think that dog owners also require dog training in order to improve their dog’s behavior. This article has summed up this thing very well. Cheers.

  7. I do not have a big dog, got a small and cute pug, who I could only partially train despite my best efforts. I use the word partially because he adheres to my commands only when he is in a mood, otherwise he will just sit or lie and do nothing.
